Do you remember?

♬ Do you remember, the 21st night of September? ♬

I know a song about that! Anyway, to the reason for this post.

I've been trying out alternatives to Google Calendar, preferably EU-Based providers.

My main requirements are for event email reminders to work and to arrive on time, plus the ability to search for very old events.

Google Calendar provides both the above, but what about other providers?

  • Zoho: reminders = pass, searches = fail
  • Proton: reminders = pass, searches = fail
  • Tuta: reminders = pass, searches = fail
  • Mailbox: reminders = pass, searches = fail
  • Infomaniak: reminders = pass, searches = fail
  • Mailo: reminders = fail, searches = pass
  • Nextcloud: reminders = fail, searches = pass

As another experiment, I exported a calendar from Google (that I know works) and imported the calendars into both Zoho Calendar and Mailbox Calendar. Then I exported that calendar out of both of them, and did this comparison:

  • Mailbox exported 69 events.
  • Zoho exported 111 events.
  • Google exported 576 events.

There may be technical reasons for the difference, but the fact remains that only Google Calendars is suitable for my requirements.

In the meantime, I'll continue the search for the Holy Grail!
